I don't mind if you drop a little knowledge on me but please do so in a respectful way. So what says you the jury?

Answer: There are a lot of good candidates for this one. From my 40+ years of watching hockey, here are some of my candidates. For what it's worth, I'm only including players with more years and impact than Gretzky.

Since the dynasty years of the 40s, these are my candidates in order:
Mark Messier (C) - solidified his reputation as what a Captain should be in the '94 Cup.
Rod Gilbert (RW) - Leading Ranger scorer all time, wonderful hands.
Brian Leetch (D) - toss up with Park, but he won the Norris.
Brad Park (D) - Great defenseman #2 in league behind Bobby Orr, then #3 behind Denis Potvin and Larry Robinson.
Jean Ratelle (C) - Centred the best line in Rangers history with Gilbert and Hadfield. In 71-72 line scored 140 goals.
Vid Hadfield (LW) - One of the better triggermen, but needed Ratelle to reach potential.
Ed Giacomin (G) - great goalie in the 70s, when they were playing in the shadows of the Bruins and Canadiens.
Gump Worsley (G) - good for the Rangers, great for the Canadiens.

The list is unfortunately short as the Rangers did not do very well in the front office for many of those years and most of the star players were lured away from other teams at the failing end of their careers: Wayne Gretzky, Jari Kurri, Tim Horton, Guy Lafleur, Jacques Plante, Phil Esposito, Bobby Hull, Boom Boom Geoffrion, and Howie Morenz to name a few.
They often traded valuable minor leaguers or draft picks to get these players.
